About Christy

Welcome to my blog, Health, Holiness, and Hallelujahs. To start with I want to tell you a bit about myself and the purpose behind this blog. I am blessed to be a middle-aged woman who was supremely blessed to have grown up knowing how awesome Jesus is. That is honestly the greatest privilege that could have been bestowed upon me in my youth. I began serving God for myself at a very young age and have never looked back. At times I have been a stronger Christian than at others, but God’s Spirit and a good foundation in his Word have kept me through childhood, a secular boarding school, college, and a beautiful marriage of 25 years to a godly man that has always included 4 step children and a growing number of grandchildren.

Health - Cause and Effect

I’m a big believer in cause and effect relationships surrounding health. Someone does not get sick out of the blue for no particular reason. Things we see are more obviously caused by things we do. No one has a hard time understanding that a sunburn comes from being hit by too much sunlight. It is also easy to accept that becoming fat is in some way caused by how we eat, even though we might not understand the particulars or how to change. However, even things that are not so obvious, like low immunity, arthritis, migraines, and heart conditions, can also generally be traced to what we consume or how we behave and the environment we are in.

As my husband pointed out to his doctor about a year ago when he was diagnosed with diabetes and told to start taking metformin, “My diabetes isn’t caused by a metformin deficiency is it?” This should give us comfort and hope when we are challenged by health issues. Just as my husband was able to eliminate his diabetes and lose a lot of weight without metformin or insulin or prescriptions of any kind, God has provided natural ways to eliminate or mitigate the health issues we face. The key is finding out what they are and being willing and able to utilize them.

I have become very interested over the last few years with learning more about ways to improve health from a variety of sources. These include scientists, various types of doctors, people who have tried things and shared their results, and also the Bible. Though I only studied a minimal amount of science and no Biology, in college, I have been teaching Biology and other sciences for the last few years to my students at school. I have really enjoyed learning the intricacies of life on Earth and being amazed at the awesomeness of God. It is too bad that while in high school and college I had 2 inhibitions. I didn’t want to dissect anything and I didn’t want to have to argue about, or be bombarded with, evolutionary theory. As an adult I have studied science more than I ever did during that time and found it to be so faith enhancing. I wish I knew then what I know now. But then again, don’t we all?

Many Biblical concepts can be applied to the health of our bodies and its relationship to our behavior and consumption. A few of these include that we are “Fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalms 139:14 and that we “ought always to pray and not to faint” Luke 18:1 as well as “cast all our cares upon Him”  1 Peter 5:7. We are instructed to “let your moderation be known to all men” Philippians 4:5. And of course, we are given examples of fasting and encouraged to fast in the Bible. Even many non-Christians have heard of the “Daniel Fast”.

In my Health blogposts I am excited to share what I have learned about health and the natural ways that can be used to improve it. I will definitely credit the many sources I draw from and maybe you will find a favorite that you may go to for help, or hopefully you will be inspired to research a particular concept on your own.

Hallelujahs Help Our Health

When we know and believe in our creator as an all-powerful, loving God, we can go to him with trust in prayer and our stress is relieved. As you may know, stress plays a significant role in our physical health. When we take time to praise him with our hallelujahs, it increases our faith and ability to trust him. When we understand holiness, what it is, why God has ordered it, and how it affects our daily lives, the lifestyle we will live lends itself strongly toward health, both physical and mental.

Songs and Reflections of Worship

My Hallelujahs blog posts will often feature worship songs from a variety of Gospel and Christian music styles past and present that have been on my mind. God often puts a song in my head when I wake up in the morning or at other times of the day. It generally stays with me throughout the day, or even for a few days. I take it as my theme song for that time, one in which God is blessing me with the message I need for those moments. Often it is faith building encouragement, but always it seems timely for the circumstances I find myself in. I also notice that frequently, not only do I need to hear its message, but it almost always seems to be meant for many of those around me. I encourage you to join with me as I reflect on the love and faithfulness of God through the anointed music I have been blessed to hear. Perhaps you will find a favorite song you had never heard, or maybe just be reminded of music God has used to minister to you in the past. “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19

The Awesome Beauty of Creation

I love to travel, see, and photograph the beauty of God’s creation. I plan to include some of that photography into these posts as well. It is it important, not only to recognize God’s love and faithfulness, but also to know and confess him as the sovereign, almighty creator of the universe, “able to do exceeding, abundantly above all that we ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20

Hunger for Holiness

My Holiness blogposts will explore the concept of holiness and delve deep into what it means. I will talk about why God has asked, “Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16. I will also explore what that means for us in our daily lives. How does holiness affect how we behave and speak for example? Is what God asks of me the same as what he asks of you? How can we know whether we are being holy as God has asked? These are all important questions to study and explore with a prayerful heart and without fomenting strife because God has asked us to “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14.
