Song of Hope for the Hopeless
Chain Breaker written by Johnathan Smith, Mia Fieldes, and Zach Williams and sung by Zach Williams has such a powerful chorus of hope for those so beautifully described in its verses. The chorus declares to all the saving power of Jesus.
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
This song spent a long time at the top of my favorites list. It comes to mind when I feel a burden for someone struggling under the bondage of this world that I know God wants to deliver them from. The first verse describes so perfectly a wandering soul without Jesus.
Weary Search for Purpose & Fulfillment
If you’ve been walking the same old road for miles and miles
If you’ve been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies
If you’re trying to fill the same old holes inside
There’s a better life, there’s a better life
You may be weary from traveling the hard road of life. Perhaps you’ve believed the lies of the devil spoken through the voices of those around you or inside your own head. Maybe you’ve been told you aren’t good enough, or haven’t done enough, or are a disappointing failure in some way. You may have searched for purpose and fulfillment in all the wrong places such as drugs, money, sex, fame, position, or anything else outside of God.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” He has the answer for a better life. He wants to take the weight of the world off your shoulders and give you peace.
Jesus Paid It All
The first line of the chorus declares, “If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker.” I’m so glad to know that Jesus suffered pain so he could understand and take our pain. The Messianic prophecy of Jesus in Isaiah 53 expounds on how he did this. In verses 3-4 which is linked here to the King James Bible Online it says, “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.”
Because he was willing to feel sorrow and grief, to be despised and rejected, he is now able to bear your sorrows and carry you through the grief you face. This may be the pain of true heart ache from things such as loss, rejection, or failure. Verse 5 goes on to let you know that “By his stripes we are healed.” So even the pain of disease he overcame for you. This passage also powerfully reveals that even if you have demonstrated hatred and rejection of him, he still waits patiently with love. He stands ready to give you forgiveness and the healing you so desperately need.
I highly suggest reading all of Isaiah 53 as well as listening to Jesus Paid It All written and sung by Phil Driscoll. These will beautifully drive home the immensity of God’s love and sacrifice for you.
Nothing Impossible to the Way Maker
The next line of the chorus that says, “If you feel lost, He’s a way maker.” This describes someone at a loss for where to go and what to do. You may not even know how you got to the place where you are now. As the song later describes in verse 2, “We’ve all searched for the light of day in the dead of night.” Life may seem dark, overwhelming, confusing, and outright impossible.
However, Mark 10:27 reminds us that, “With God, all things are possible.” He knows exactly what you should do and has already prepared a way for you. Just earnestly seek him for direction. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct they paths.” James 1:5 instructs, “ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Recognize him as Lord of your life. Ask for his wisdom. Then you will be able to declare like the Psalmist, “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalms 34:4.
Along these lines is a great song written by Sinach and sung with anointing here by The Pentecostals of Alexandria, Way Maker.
Jesus is the Chain Breaker
The last two lines of the chorus say, “If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior. If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker.” So many need freedom from their addictions, poisonous mindsets, or harmful lifestyles. Verse 2 describes this life in the following way.
We’ve all searched for the light of day in the dead of night
We’ve all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight
We’ve all run to things we know just ain’t right
When there’s a better life, there’s a better life
You may be searching for light at the end of the tunnel, fighting to change yourself with your own power, and running from one trap into another trying to get free. You may be locked in a physical prison or just living in bondage to your sins. Jesus is the Savior. Isaiah 53:6 relates that “”The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all and verse 10 tells us that his soul was made “an offering for sin.” Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God, whose blood was shed as the sacrificial payment for your sin. Only he can deliver and break these chains.
Testify of Freedom
For those of us who have experienced the power of his spirit delivering us, it is our responsibility to testify and tell someone else. Help them to believe so they can receive his love and freedom in their lives. The bridge of the song relays this message.
If you believe it, if you receive it
If you can feel it, somebody testify
If you believe it, if you receive it
If you can feel it, somebody testify, testify
If you believe it, if you receive it
If you can feel it, somebody testify
Sharing the Message of Deliverance on Social Media
If you know someone who is struggling like the one described in the verses of this song, I encourage you to send this post and song to them. Any sharing on social media would not only help this site but would also help spread the good news to others. Help them find or remember the hope brought by Jesus, the savior who loves them. As the song, Break Every Chain written by Will Reagan and sung here by Tasha Cobbs Leonard says, there is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain binding someone if they surrender to him. Then they can sing with you this song of joyful deliverance, I Didn’t Think It Could Be by Andrae Crouch.
I would love you to share with me and others in the comments your testimony of deliverance. Feel free to message me if you want help. A post I have written that explains the process which God has provided to make us holy and free can be found in this holiness post on How to Become Holy. Please feel free to message with further questions or prayer.
